Love them or hate them, the Kardashians are a strong brand recognised all over the world. Collectively they’re worth over $100,000,000 (Dhs367m), but not everyone is thrilled about them making so much money and being idolised by fans of all ages. Now, Hollywood is in a battle over reality televisions most famous family, but thankfully Oprah Winfrey has come to save the day!
TV veteran and entertainment mogul Oprah has defended the entire Kardashian clan after actress Rebel Wilson accused Kim and company of having no talent. The legendary talk show host and media mogul previously interviewed the reality TV family for her show Oprah’s Next Chapter, and now she’s very honourably leaped to their defence following the Pitch Perfect actress’ recent comments about them, insisting that Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kris, Kendall and Kylie have a very healthy work ethic.
Oprah told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show in Australia: "I interviewed the Kardashians two years ago and I can’t believe how hard they work." The 61-year-old added: “People don’t understand that. People think, ‘Oh, if a television camera’s just following you, then that’s just easy’. To really create a reality series that looks like something’s actually happening, it means you have to be ‘on’ all the time.” Oprah, who knows a fair bit more about what makes a successful programme having worked in broadcasting for over 30 years continued: “I went to film them as a family and I couldn’t believe how hard they worked. We were there for seven hours and they were gonna tape another seven hours after I left. No matter who you are, that is work.”
Rebel Slams Everyone
Oprah’s comments follow Rebel’s outright refusal to present an award with Kendall, 20, and Kylie, 18, at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. The actress recently told the Kyle and Jackie O Show: “They’re famous for no talent. They seem a bit superficial and their careers aren’t really based on talent. I know they’re super popular, but I’m all about personality and working hard to get to where I am.” In a scathing attack aimed specifically at Kim, Rebel recalled how the soon-to-be mother-of-two initially gained notoriety thanks to that homemade video with singer Ray J. “Look how Kim Kardashian got famous from the tape and I just went to acting school and worked really hard.”
Wilson’s a Hypocrite
It seems it’s not just Oprah who disagrees with Rebel, as many people have come forward to slam the actress as a “hypocrite” and a “one-trick pony”. One Kardashian trashed the comic writing: “Rebel, you make bad movies! That’s what you stand for! You’re all in the same boat as far as I’m concerned.” Another blasted: “How can Rebel Wilson say anything about anyone having no talent? I’m not being funny, but she is an ‘actress’ who makes a living from playing the same overweight over-confident funny girl in every movie.”
Rebel’s Weight Woes
One Rebel hater quipped: “If the Kardashians weren’t talented, then they wouldn’t have a successful business empire and be [some] of the richest people on the planet. Meanwhile, Rebel’s glass ceiling is mediocre comedy films because she isn’t talented enough to star in drama film or take on serious roles like a lot of actors can.” The most toxic attacks were targeted at Wilson’s weight. “Oh Rebel, unfunny, fat, and pretentious to boot. Such redeeming qualities,” said one, while another added: “What is Rebel’s real talent? Eating? She’s just bitter.”
