Q: I decided that I wanted to lose weight – I even told everyone, but I don’t seem to have got any further. I bought a gym membership, but that’s as far as I’ve got. Dr Melanie Schlatter says: This year has only just begun, so do not fear! The more you think about what you haven’t achieved already; the more you will talk yourself into a complete dead end. So start thinking, talking, and acting as if you are already a person who is making progress in your new lifestyle. And don’t fear the gym! Simply try attending fun sessions or at specific times which will perk you up. Can you go with one of the friends you have told? Or get a trainer to jumpstart you? Start with a few manageable sessions; and focus on the overall results of being fitter, slimmer, and happier - not on the scale. Getting there is half your battle won, and you will definitely feel better for going.
