These sisters, hailing from Devon in the UK, have really shown their creative flair when it comes to decorating and furnishing their villa. “We have used our imaginations and customised most of our furniture to work in with our theme,” says Hannah. Working with local carpenters, many of their pieces in their living room and bedrooms have been adapted – whether stripped down, repainted or re-upholstered or simply custom-made from scratch.
In particular, the sisters favour lighter wood – as opposed to the dark wood furniture commonly found here in the UAE. “The dining chairs are a great example. We found them on Dubizzle but they were dark wood with tatty cream covers. I had them stripped back, painted in distressed antique white and then used Zara Home curtain material to re-upholster them,” says Hannah.
Furthermore, the bed in Bex’s room was designed by the duo and made by a local carpenter. “The headboard itself is beautiful, and the colours are brought out by the lamps and the wall art,” says Hannah.
The artwork around the villa also reflects the girls’ sense of humour. “I love the wooden giraffes from Indonesia that guard the dining table and stairs – you can’t help but smile when you see them. And the Hear, See, Speak No Evil Monkeys in the bedroom make me laugh.”
