Gwyneth Selling Out!

03 Dec 2008

Only in it for the money? Fair enough, but at least try and pretend you’re not, Gwyneth!

Celebs have a long tradition of promoting products. And while plenty of them head abroad so that the folks back home won’t catch them selling out – with Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Jodie Foster all heading to Japan to sell the public stuff – Gwyneth Paltrow has been happy to rake in even more millions, by flogging anything she can.

And while her choices aren’t in the same league as say, that blue lipstick that Joey from Friends was caught flogging in Asia, we can’t help but be a bit taken aback by how willing Gwyn is to swap acting for advertising. Ahlan! pores over her contracts...

Flogging:Estée Lauder
What She Earned:Dhs22 million

Gwyn has previously admitted to not wearing much make-up, but was signed up by the cosmetics giant to promote their fragrance, Pleasures. And Gwyn insisted of the megabucks deal, “Years ago, endorsing a product was considered something a movie actress shouldn’t do, but now having a contract is almost like a status symbol.”

“It allows me to be with my daughter, which is what I want to do until some fantastic movie role comes along and makes me change my mind,” she said.

What She Earned:Dhs3.6 million

As the brand ambassador for the luxury clothing and accessories company, Gwyn has featured in their print ads and also a four-minute ‘movie’ directed by Dennis Hopper to showcase their Pashmy bag.

The actress landed herself in hot water after appearing draped in a fox fur-lined coat in a recent ad. “That was awkward, because I do not wear fur at all,” she said. “During one set-up, a stylist came up from behind and draped a stole around my shoulders. I didn’t pay much attention to it, and when I noticed it was fur I assumed it was fake fur but did not ask, so it’s my fault. I know it’s not a great excuse.”

Flogging:American Express
What She Earned:A rumoured six figure sum

Recession be darned! Millionaire Gwyn’s getting out there to encourage you to get into more debt, shoppers! It was announced last week, that the Oscar winner will front the credit card’s new campaign.

Too Good To Refuse?:
“She decided to do the commercials because it was quite simply such a huge amount of money,” spilled a pal. “She seems to be spreading her wings and wanting to do many more things than just acting.”
