Guess How Much UAE Tourists Spent at the FIFA World Cup 2014!
Tourists from the UAE have spent more in Brazil than those from any other Middle Eastern country, reveals credit-card company Visa. Their Visa cards have been loaded up with more than US$1.1million (Dhs 4million) since the start of the FIFA Football World Cup in June.
In the list of the highest-spending nations at the World Cup compiled by Visa, the UAE ranked 30th globally. Visa’s data shows that tourists from the Middle East and North Africa spent $2.7m in the 12 host cities during the group stages of the World Cup. Topping the list were the USA, whose tourists spent a whopping $48.3m. Next came the UK who spent $16m and France with $11.2m.
The highest spending this year’s World Cup has seen so far was on 25 June, with $17.4m spent by tourists on the day Argentina beat Nigeria in a 3-2 thriller in a group match, and Switzerland defeated Honduras 3-0.
