E! News host Giuliana and husband Bill Rancic, the first season winner of reality hit show The Apprentice that earned him a job with Donald Trump, have been left devastated after the surrogate mother carrying their child suffered a miscarriage.
The couple who wed in 2007 had turned to a woman named Delphine, who had previously carried their son Edward Duke in 2012, to have a second child, but it has now emerged she lost the baby at nine weeks.
Bill Rancic, whose life with 40 year-old Giuliana is documented in minute detail on their self-titled reality show, said that during "this whole season of Giuliana and Bill we've been trying to have another baby.
"Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine, who we love very much, had a miscarriage. It's something that we didn't see coming. We were devastated. She was about nine weeks pregnant. We were pretty close to getting into the safe zone. We experienced a miscarriage years ago when we were trying with Giuliana, so we had been keeping the pregnancy news tight to the vest."
Given the world has been following their love story, Giuliana's subsequent battle with cancer and inability to concieve naturally, not to mention their first successful surrogacy, the couple have been overwhelmed by the sympathy received from fans rooting for a fairytale ending for this hugely popular couple.
