The streets of the Al Ghurair Centre in Deira will be brought to life from 5 to 15 Feb, when the shopping mall hosts a new urban art fest.
The Al Ghurair Centre’s Street Con is a ten-day celebration of local and international urban art talent.
A total of 17 different artists will show-off their skills through art installations, creative displays, live exhibits, graffiti, music, street theatre performances, face painting and balloon bending.
Installations will include Toy Jam, which will see artist decorate 10 toy figures outside the mall on 7 Feb from 2-10pm, The Wall, live artistry on a 5m wall which will create a permanant piece of urban art from 5-8 feb from 2-10om, and Exquisite Corpse, a collection of paintings assembled by artists inspired by a key word. That will take place from 4-10pm throughout the festival.
Rollan Rodriguez, curator of Street Con said: “The greater population may not know how rich Deira is in terms of culture and diversity – it’s a perfect incubator for art. Just like the Al Ghurair Centre, it is the original ‘urban’ community. Street Con is the Al Ghurair Centre’s contribution to the urban art community, exposing urban art to the wider public."
