Gately died from undiagnosed heart condition

Further forensic reports into the death of STEPHEN GATELY have proved the singer died from a rare heart condition, as suggested by his grieving mother.

The 33-year-old was found dead in October at his Majorca, Spain home which he shared with partner Andrew Cowles.

An initial post-mortem examination stated the singer suffered pulmonary oedema - a build-up of fluid on the lungs - and that his death had been natural.

His grief-stricken mum Margaret claimed at the time her son must have had an undiagnosed heart condition, because several relatives have been plagued by health problems.

In findings obtained by British newspaper The Sun, the reports state that Gately's death was due to atheromatosis, a thickening of the arteries.

The report adds, "Gately had been dead for approximately eight hours when his body was discovered."

The news will cause further distress for the Boyzone star's widower Cowles, who told police he had slept next to Gately on a sofa for three hours thinking he was asleep before retiring to his bedroom.
