RTA reveals new features for Dubai bus stops
Just when you thought Dubai couldn’t make your RTA experience any better, think again! Not only will free Wi-Fi be provided at bus stops, but residents will also be able to enjoy their coffee or tea from new cafés inside the stops.
Mohammad Al Ali, Director of Buses at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, previewed the new bus shelter during the Gitex Technology week at Dubai World Trade Center. The bus stops are set to have free Wi-Fi, mobile phone charging, food and drinks . He says: "We will be modifying the existing AC bus stops to accommodate the new features, at key locations like Sheikh Zayed Road, Deira, Bur Dubai, and Jumeirah."
Cafés are also set to be installed at bus stops. The Director of RTA said: "We are in talks with some of the popular cafés and tea joints in the city to have their stalls inside the bus stops. It will be great to have them as that will give commuters a chance to grab snacks on the go."
It doesn't end there. Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA also revealed “The 'Smart Kiosk', which will offer a wide range of services to bus riders including free WiFi Internet in cooperation with du, Nol card selling and top-up services, and payment of credit card bills."
