Social media platforms had been buzzing with news that ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) was giving customers free access to the premium services.
The rumours claimed that customers could avail premium services for free, between 7am and 9am, during the months of July and August.
When these rumours popped up, ADNOC rose up and tackled them head-on stating that they were fake.
The company announced, “Please be advised that no special offer had been officially announced by Adnoc. Any offers will be announced on our official pages of social networking sites or through Adnoc distribution stations.”
In June 2018, ADNOC launched its premium service after launching self-serve a few months before that. ADNOC’s premium service can be availed by motorists at a small fee of Dhs10, allowing them to relax while an attendant will fill their vehicles with gasoline. Self-serve, however, is free.
In light of these events, here’s a little reminder. Under UAE’s law, spreading rumours of any kind of social media is considered a criminal act and can land a person in jail, as well as a hefty fine of Dhs1M.
So be careful of what you share and forward on social media!
