Free Parking in Dubai - Who Gets it and Who Doesn't

Good news for all those who have their own cars but still prefer to use public transport. If parking your car is still a hassle, there's a solution now!

HE Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive, has amended Resolution No.3 of 2009 concerning the unified tariff for public parking in areas attached to public transport. This resolution aims to guarantee fair use of these limited parking spots.  The article reads as follows:

Article XIII of Resolution No.3 of 2009:

“First: Parking spaces in areas attached to public transportation stations shall be subject to existing laws and regulations applicable to public parking spaces in the Emirate of Dubai, with exception of tariffs.

Second: Users of public transportation may use parking spaces available in areas attached to public transport stations free of charge for a period of 24 hours. People who do not use public transport and wish to the parking spaces in such areas have to pay a certain fee as per the following tarrif:

  • Up to five hours: Dhs10 per hour (or part of an hour)
  • 5-24 hours: Dhs50
  • Five days: Dhs50 per day (or part of a day)
  • Six months: Dhs3,000 per parking space
  • 12 months: Dhs5,000 per parking space.

As per the rules, a fine of Dhs100 will be placed on those who violate these rules. These rules not only get rid of the parking issue but also encourage the use of public transport which in turn should hopefully reduce the traffic on the roads.
