Former Miss Lebanon finalist dies after battling cancer
Sad news, all. 2016 Miss Lebanon finalist Michele Hajal died on Monday at the age of 25. The cause of her death was cancer, after having fought it for over a year.
Hajal was diagnosed with non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January last year, shortly after she got engaged. When her treatment was unsuccessful in Lebanon, she and her family launched a campaign to raise funds for treatment in the U.S. They were able to raise $750,000 and travel to America for CAR-T cells therapy.
Hajal returned to Lebanon after two months of treatment, stating that she’s in complete remission. But earlier this year her health began to deteriorate again which then led to her tragic death.
Her sister, Paula, announced the sad news on a Facebook post alongside a photo of Michele. She captioned it, “Keep smiling from up there, our hearts are broken. You're a blessing that visited us and left too soon."
Hajal’s fiancé also mourned his loss on Instagram story.
Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
