Film fans and foodies of all ages will be licking their lips in anticipation as the Middle East’s first food-inspired movie festival launches tonight.

Part of the Dubai Food Festival 2015, Food & Film celebrates the longstanding link between the two by pairing flicks with the dishes portrayed onscreen.

There’ll be 11 free screenings in total, held at a variety of locations across the city throughout the month.

Tonight’s showing, American comedy-drama Chef, highlights the adventures of Carl (Jon Favreau), a cook whose unimaginative boss constantly stifles his creativity, propelling him to launch his own business selling gourmet grub on wheels. On this occasion, at Jumeirah Lakes Towers, viewers can look forward to an accompaniment of street food as served by the festival’s convoy of homegrown and international food trucks.

Further screenings include much-loved French classic Chocolat and, from the same director, The Hundred-Foot Journey. Starring Om Puri and Helen Mirren, it was inspired by the life of celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, who launched his first Dubai venture, Junoon, at Shangri-la Hotel last month. Other treats will include The Trip to Italy, the second feature film adaptation of the perennially popular BBC series created by and starring British comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.
