Freak Weather to Hit UAE this Weekend
Wintry temperatures are forecast in the coming days, with drivers warned to take extra care on the roads as visibility plummets and winds of up to 70kph whip up sandstorms.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the tail end of the Huda snowstorm which hit parts of the Levant on Tuesday could move in to the UAE today, the dramatic effects of which could potentially last into Sunday.
Communities across the Middle East have been plunged into chaos this week as ice and snow hit Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories, as well as parts of Iraq, triggering a state of emergency for thousands of people displaced by regional conflict.
Bitter conditions have also been felt across the UAE, with the lowest temperature, 5.2 degrees Celsius, recorded in Damsa, 35km west of Al Ain, at 7am today. NCMS has also warned seafarers that the waters of the Arabian Gulf could become choppy today and “very rough” by tomorrow.
The maximum temperature in the UAE is expected to reach 19 degrees Celsius today, dropping to 15 degrees at night, so remember to grab a coat before you head out on the town.
