Emirati-made satellite captured pictures of the Baikonur Cosmodrome

UAE based satellite ‘KhalifaSat’, which was blasted off into orbit last year from Japan, has sent a picture perfect snap of the Baiknour Cosmodrome, located in the southern part of Kazakhstan where Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri is currently in isolation ahead of his trip to the International Space Station.

The nation’s space projects are on a rise, and will take another leap forward when Maj Al Mansouri launches itself into space on September 25th.

The former military pilot is currently in isolation along with his compatriot, Sultan Al Neyadi, who is also a former engineer for the UAE Armed Forces, and is among the backup team for the out-of-this-world expedition.

The two arrived in Baiknour on Tuesday ahead of the launch and have spent their time to ensure the readiness of the Sokul space suit, which will carry Maj Al Mansouri inside the Soyuz-MS 15 spacecraft alongside Russian Commander Oleg Skripochka and US astronaut Jessica Meir.
