Season 4 of Fashion Forward kicked off in spectacular style yesterday and team Ahlan! were on the frow to bring you all the info on what's going on on and off the catwalk.
The shows began with The Emperor 1688, who’s blue and grey colour palette or masculine meets feminine pieces glistened down the runway to a packed crown of fashionistas. Well-tailored trouser suits were juxtaposed with floaty chiffon gowns (we expect to Miranda Kerr wearing one of these on the red carpet soon), and printed sharp cut dresses. Ahlan! chatted to the crowds after the show who told us they thought it was “the most high fashion show they’ve seen on the Dubai catwalk.”
While waiting for the next show we headed to the VIP lounge and checked out some of the outfits on show at the event. It was great to see such a range of styles all in one place.
Next up was MARAL, who Ahlan! met just last week so we couldn’t wait to see how her show turned out. MARAL’s combination of Indian sourced materials and Middle Easten inspired looks combined with western trends makes for a unique style of garment. Her show was a colourful affair as two styles were combined. The intricate embroidery on her pieces made them something specia
Jean Louis Sabaji was the surprising designer of Fashion Forward as until now we hadn’t seen any of his designs. The Lebanese designer was raised by a successful designer himself, and he is sure to follow in his father’s footsteps. The presentation comprised of show-stopping gowns created from twisted chiffon. The futuristic pieces we paired with ballet style skirts and dresses. The finishing piece was a stunning huge wedding gown, which Kim Kardashian would have just loved for her wedding! The models had wet look hair and devilishly dark eyeliner, reflecting what we saw on the catwalk at Balmain and Givenchy earlier this month.
While waiting for the final show of the day team Ahlan! caught up with designer Essa who told us he had to pull out of the event at the last minute after having to sell his entire collection to an eager buyer. Sadly we won’t get to see his show which is always a highlight of the event.
The final show of the day was the highly anticipated Michael Cinco, and the Filipino designer did not disappoint. As always he presented a top of the range selection of couture gowns. Each one encrusted with Swarovski crystals and finished with lace panel. The colour palette created a rainbow down the runway, starting with white and ending with bight purple and turquoise hues. The key pieces from the collection were three huge gowns which resembled the colourful frocks on the catwalk at Giambattista Valli last season (also worn by Lena Dunham.)
As the final show of the day came to an end fashionistas headed to the Forte Island at the arena for the famous after party. We were heading home to take off our heels and get ready for plenty more fashion tomorrow!
