Sitting in the Habtoor Grand Resort & Spa having dinner with US rapper Fabolous was an interesting experience. Having planned out meticulously what questions to ask and which topics to avoid (like the many fake concerts that people have put on using his name, which he never agreed to perform at) I strangely managed to get sidetracked for about two hours thanks to his enthralling stories. The 37-year-old rapper, who also performed at supperclub last week, sat smoking a diamond encrusted cigar dressed all in white as his entourage kept a respectable distance from us and struggled to keep numerous fans away from the table. So forgetting my prepared questions on global issues such as the American presidency, the conflict in Ukraine and the missing Malaysian plane, I referred to the topics we somehow drifting onto – Rihanna, Beyonce and the Kardashians...
You’re in Dubai quite a lot – what is it you like so much about the emirate that keeps you coming back?
My favourite things about Dubai are the ambience and the good energy here is a good vibe I think everybody who comes here feels that. I’ve seen some celebs who’ve come here recently talking about how they’ve loved it, so I know it's not only just me that’s feeling the good things here, and that's how you know. I got some celebrity friends who come here on holiday and never wanna leave. They always stay longer than they're supposed to.
If you had to pick between Jay Z and Kanye West as rappers, who would say is the best?
I would say Jay Z, I’m from Brooklyn, we grew up a few blocks away from each other, and our lifestyles were the same. Even our lingo, our ethics and morals everything is kind of the same just coming from where we’ve come from.
Who do you think has the most bootylicious body out of Khloé and Kim Kardashian?|
That’s a tough one. I gotta say Kim because she’s always been curvy, but wow, Khloé came out of nowhere recently with her body. Clearly, the separation from Lamar Odom is working for her! It’s got her going to the gym and what not, but Kim has just been holding it down for so long I gotta say her.
What do you think about Beyonce’s new music sounding like Rihanna? Do you think she’s deliberately copying her?
Musically I think they’re in two different lanes, but I prefer Beyonce’s range. Rihanna has that whole rebellious thing going on and her edgy music that comes with her personality. Bey doesn’t really have that, but she’s more complete than RiRi. I think talking about them in a purely misogynistic way, I’d have to say that I would rather date Rihanna because Beyonce is my homie Jay Z’s wife – so Rihanna wins by default.
