Etisalat Warns Customers of Email Scam
Cyber Crime: Watch out for a email scam

Etisalat has sent out a warning to customers to be aware of a scam.

According to the phone line and internet provider, Etisalat subscribers may receive an email that tries to steal their account details and credit card information.

Many customers have already received a poorly worded email that reads: “Your Etisalat online bills is ready to be viewed.” Once opened, recipients are then prompted to follow a link that takes them to another page where they are asked to enter their bank details and Etisalat information in order to view their statement. The email signs off with “from Etisalat Online Service Team”.

One user told The National that they tried to click the link, but thankfully their cybersecurity programme blocked the web page from opening and reported the link as a forgery. Not all computer security programmes are able to identify the scam and so you may still be at risk regardless.

Etisalat are now telling all customers to report any suspicious activity directly to them – including odd phone calls, text messages and emails.

Etisalat have also specified that if they send a bill it will only be communicated to customers via email, and an SMS will also be sent to the customers number with their account and PIN number attached to verify it’s authenticity.
