Travelling soon? Well, your return to the UAE will be much swifter thanks to special new gates at Dubai Airport's Terminal 3. The 14 new smart gates will reduce queues and let you get through immigration in as little as 20 seconds! Even better news is they are also planned for Terminals 1 and 2.
Al-Maktoum International Airport and Dubai ports are also going to soon see the installation of gates. They have been rolled out by Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) and emaratech.
Suzanne Al-Anani, CEO of DAEP, said: "The smart gates and upgrading immigration counters mark another important milestone in our continuing strategy to fully harness the potential of Dubai’s International Airports and passenger handling capacity.”
Travellers with electronically compatible passports from 33 pre-approved visa countries, UAE citizens and residences and GCC nationals will be able to take advantage of the gates. The airport plans to expand this system to all four of its terminals and process a huge 75 million passengers a year through immigration by next year. In order to be able to use the service, you’ll need to pre-register, for free.
“Travellers who wish to avoid waiting time at normal immigration counters can register their biometrics and start using the smart gate at no cost,” the company said.
