Epic Michael Jackson Show Starts this Week
An epic new show based on the music of Michael Jackson will take over Dubai’s World Trade Centre from this week, and it’s set to be a must-see event whether of not you’re a fan of the late King of Pop. Here are five reasons why…
1 It’s Cirque Du Soleil
The hugely successful Canadian circus-style show producers have taken Jackson’s hits and made them into what they describe as “riveting fusion of visuals, dance, music and fantasy.” More than 100 million people have seen the company’s shows in the past 30 years, and they’ve currently got no less than 20 different productions on the road and playing in Las Vegas.
2 Many of the cast worked with Michael
Writer and director Jamie King was a dancer on Michael’s <Dangerous> tour, and went on to direct shows for Madonna and Rihanna. Drummer Jonathan “Sugarfoot” Moffett is also among cast members who worked with Jackson.
3 It’s record breaking and award-winning
The show broke Cirque De Soleil records for the most people at a single show (17,396) in Denmark and has been seen by more than a million people. It also scooped an award for its creativity and the show Oscars, the Billboard Touring Awards.
4 It’s got great tunes
A total of 32 Jackson songs feature in the show, from Thriller to Childhood and Billie Jean. There are 64 artists involved.
5 The Costumes are Amazing
The 250 outfits worn by the cast are inspired by Michael's famous stage outfits. In one scene each outfit has 275 blinking LED lights, while the bat costumes used in the show are actually made from ultra lightweight paper used for shipping parcels. Three 45-foot trucks are used to transport them all – and the show even tours with its own washing machines!
