Aah, the south of France... lazy summer days, vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see and some of the most heavenly cuisine on earth. Doha’s La Varenne restaurant, perched on the 28th floor of Tornado Tower in West Bay, is promising a culinary journey to Provence with a five-course dinner of paired food and vino on the evening of Wednesday 4 September.
The menu features the world-renowned dish of bouillabaisse, a traditional fish and seafood stew originating from the port city of Marseille, along with a red mullet escabeche (a typically Mediterranean marinated dish), spice crusted veal medallion and a lemon tart with French meringue and vanilla sauce. For those who still have any room left, the dinner will finish with calissons, a traditional French sweet made of candied fruit and ground almonds...Mmm...
If you can’t make it on Wednesday evening but still hanker for a taste of Provence, the brasserie will be offering a ‘Provence week’ business lunch from 3 to 9 September celebrating the delicacies of the region. Until we can next get away for a French holiday, this sounds like just the ticket.
