The Harry Potter star is focusing on feminism

Did you know that being a feminist is a full-time job that requires all of your attention? No, neither did we, but apparently British actress Emma Watson is going to give up acting in order to dedicate a year of her life to feminism and reading books, and the internet has mocked her for it.
Emma The Book Worm
Watson, 25, is taking a year-long hiatus from acting in order to focus on her “own personal development”. The star made her professional acting debut in the first Harry Potter film in 2001, but now she’s ready to step out of the spotlight to focus on other endeavours that are unrelated to the entertainment industry. “I’m taking a year away from acting to focus on two things, really. My own personal development is one,” she told Paper magazine. “My own personal task is to read a book a week, and also to read a book a month as part of my book club. I’m doing a huge amount of reading and study just on my own.”
Watson’s Brain Change
The Burberry model said she had intended to do a year of gender studies but decided not to after realising she was already learning so much from her own reading. “I actually wanted to keep on the path that I’m on. I’m reading a lot this year, and I want to do a lot of listening.”
She continued, modestly: “I’m reading so much and exposing myself to so many new ideas. It almost feels like the chemistry and the structure of my brain is changing so rapidly sometimes. It feels as if sometimes I’m struggling to keep up with myself.”
Hollywood Will Be Fine
Awkwardly, the public has reacted to Emma’s news with lots of sarcasm and even more cynicism. “So an actress that is now a millionaire is taking a year off to find herself, and do whatever she wants. Us common folk don’t have that luxury,” said one person. “It’s usually through the struggles of everyday life that people find who they really are as a person.” Another criticised, adding: “She’s not a very good actress, so this isn’t exactly a huge loss to Hollywood or anything.” One outspoken fan said: “She’s just a jumped-up little kid who hasn’t done a good movie since Harry Potter. Get back to Hogwarts!”

Feminism Will Go on Tour
The other goal of Emma’s during her self-imposed hiatus is to continue to absorb herself in her work for the United Nations and its women’s rights campaign HeForShe, revealing plans to “take another field trip in the next two or three months,” as well as, “organising a HeForShe arts week, a university tour, and launching the HeForShe website.” Watson admitted, “It’s a lot. There’s a lot to do.” Good luck with that, love
