Osama Al Zubaidi has won Dhs367,000 ($100,000) for this snapshot of the desert at the Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed International Photography Awards.
With over 19,000 photographs submitted in consideration for the awards and over Dhs1.4m ($389,000) up for grabs, the competition was tough. And Emirati Osama won the grand prize in the ‘Beauty of Light’ category, awarded to him by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
Osama said: “I really worked hard to choose the best photos to submit for each category." He took up photography in 2006 and seems to have gone from strength to strength since. However, this isn’t the first award he's won. In 2011, the Emirati photographer came third in the Through Your Eyes competition in Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, the first prize at the Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed International Photography Awards went to Abdulaziz bin Ali for yet another stunning snapshot of the desert. He is currently studying photography at the Ajman University of Science and Technology but, after this, we have a feeling he may start teaching the teachers a thing or two!
