We’ve been crushing on this restaurant like love-struck teenagers since it first opened. It offers a fine-dining restaurant experience, a fashionable tapas bar concept and an alfresco terrace.
There’s a dearth of premium Spanish cuisine in the UAE, and El Sur is filling the gap in the market and many hungry stomachs with classic croquettas, patatas bravas and tortillas, but it’s the experimental dishes we’re most impressed by. We coo over the liquid olives – they look like standard olives, but are actually dissolvable orbs of seasoned oil that pop on the tongue. We swoon over the ‘air bags’ – hollow baguettes loaded with whipped Manchego foam and topped with Spanish cured meat.
The avocado cannelloni with tuna is the ultimate indulgence for carb-swervers. In place of pasta, thin slivers of avocado are wrapped around tuna ceviche. It’s healthy, filling and guilt-free, which means you can enjoy pudding, right?
Decisions, decisions… there are five desserts to choose from and they all sound knockout. Peanut fondant is a tasty new take on the chocolate variety. It’s served with coconut ice cream and may just give you a When Harry Met Sally moment at the table.
