“It’s the developing storyline and narrative of the UAE and wider Middle East that keeps me engaged – I want to see firsthand ‘what happens next,’” And whatever does happen next, chances are PR Guru Eileen Wallis will be at the hub of it.
As managing partner of The Portsmouth Group, one of the Middle East’s leading independent PR consultancies, Eileen has worked with the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, the Rocco Forte Collection of luxury hotels, the Majid Al Futtaim Group, and that’s just her accomplishments in the last year alone. She describes her life in Dubai as ‘unpredictable but exciting’ and that certainly sums up one of her most memorable moments of 2009, as she explains: “Racing car driver Ralf Schumacher mistook my husband for his own driver and hopped into our car outside one of the beach hotels – it was very funny and Ralf was very gracious about his oversight!”
And when she’s not chauffeuring F1 celebs, her perfect day would start with a lie in, followed by some family fun on the beach and a swanky dinner at Zuma. However, Eileen’s two young children, Lily and George ensure that her ‘me-time’ is anything but… “My family is the most entertaining aspect of my life and watching my children growing up here has been amazing – hearing my daughter reading to me in Arabic makes me feel so proud,” she says. “Living here is a fantastic opportunity to balance family life with a compelling career, we’ve been here for 12 years and it has exceeded my expectations, which is why we are still here!”
