Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Dubai and Al Ain a little before 10am this morning (27 May).
It was later confirmed by the UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology that a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Qasham in Iran around 9.45am and that tremors were felt across the UAE. Buildings were evacuated in some parts of the emirates.
Our friends in Downtown Dubai felt the tremors and so did people in Business Bay, Barsha, Dubai Marina and Al Nahda, though we didn't feel them here at Ahlan! HQ in Dubai Media City. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any serious damage in the UAE so far.
Twitter was buzzing with news of the earthquake too.
Candy M Camano posted on Twitter at 9.52am, "Did anyone feel the earthquake just now?"
Nesreena wrote, "Just felt an earthquake"
Fatima tweeted, "Was I just woken up by an #earthquake right now or am I dreaming? #Dubai
Alexander Larsen tweeted: "Wow, I felt the earthquake just now. #dubai #UAE"
