Dubai World Cup 2014: Majed Al Jahouri's Group 1 Clean Sweep
By winning the Dubai Kahyala Classic, sponsored by Emaar, the opening race on Dubai World Cup night, Rabbah de Carrere ensured that his trainer Majed Al Jahouri made it a clean sweep of Group 1 PA races in the UAE this season.
Ridden by Olivier Peslier, Rabbah de Carrere (FR), who carries the colours of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan beat the filly Djainka Des Forges (FR) by three quarters of a length, followed by Musharab (FR) in third. With two G 1 PA victories under his belt in February, the raider from Abu Dhabi was the most consistent performer going into this 2000m race, but was hit with an unfavourable outside draw.
His jockey confirmed: “Coming out of stall number 15 was not ideal and as it turned out I had to sit in the back. On top of it, I was a little afraid because he hangs to the left and it’s useless fighting with him. So I stayed where I was. In fact, Christophe (Soumillon) was galloping just in front of me, so I decided to follow him and hope for the gap.”
Olivier Peslier, who won this race for the first time in 2001 and again in 2011 added: “The gap then came just at the right time. Luckily I had decided to stay on the rail and I knew that Rabbah could quicken. The winning post came at the right time.”
The 5-year-old son of Bibe de Carrere (FR) and Mizzna (FR) covered the 2000m in 2:17.76 minutes and his trainer Majed Al Jahouri said: “This horse is so tough. He had to come all the way from the back and this is a hard race to win as the best horses are here.”
The Abu Dhabi based trainer was responsible for five of the 16 runners.
