It's UAE shining on the international music scene! Two of the best-known musical names from the country have been nominated for the prestigious MTV European Music Awards. Hamdan Al Abri is in the running for Best Middle East Act along with fellow UAE performers Juliana Down (winners of Best Music Act in Ahlan!'s Best in Dubai 2012).
Al Abri, who founded and fronts Dubai-based soul band ABRI, started playing music at a young age and moved on to working with bands in the UAE before forming his own act. ABRI have released two criticially acclaimed albums and toured with established acts such as Erykah Badu, Ziggy Marley, Arrested Development, Kanye West and Joss Stone.
Meanwhile, rock band Juliana Down have been nominated in the same catergory as ABRI and will be hoping to bring the award back to the region.
Speaking to 7DAYS, lead singer of the band Dia Hassan said: "We knew about the nomination a week beforehand, but we couldn’t talk about it before the announcement. I’m really glad we can tell people now and ask them to vote."
The awards will be announced on 1 November, here's wishing them all the best!
