Radar could be fitted at spots for disabled drivers

A new electronic device could warn motorists if they’ve parked illegally, Dubai Police have revealed.

Entering a zone without the necessary permit would set off a piercing alarm lasting 20 seconds – enough to deter the laziest driver.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, Commander of Dubai Police, said the force had designed the system and was currently seeking to patent it.

He added that officers were working with the Roads and Transport Authority to have it installed in mall car parks across the emirate.

Dubbed ‘the sergeant’, the gadget is equipped with a camera to film and record offenders’ licence plates.

The penalty for illegal parking in a disabled zone can be as high as Dh1,000 and four black points.
