Dubai Metro's Red Line to close on weekends

If you use the metro on a regular basis, listen up!

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Dubai Metro’s Red Line will be partially closed between JLT and Ibn Battuta stations on Fridays and Saturdays for 10 weeks starting July 28.

The closure is due to the expansion of the Red Line, which will connect the Nakheel Harbour and Tower station with the Expo 2020 site.

Construction on the 15km-long, Dhs10.6-billion project began late last year, and is expected to end by the end of 2019. The new route is expected to open for public from May 20, 2020, five months before the start of Expo 2020.

For those concerned about their commute, RTA has an alternate plan in place, with the availability of free shuttle buses in both directions from the two stations, as well as at the Nakheel Harbour and Tower stations.

Will the closure affect your commute? Let us know in the comments below!
