Debacle Sees Thrillseekers' Weekend Go Down the Drain
The big debut of the Dubai Water Slide proved to fail with the last minute cancellation reportedly due to ‘insufficient pressure’, causing angry customers to look for a refund.
More than 100 thrill-seekers visited the 500-metre water slide attraction before finding out it had to be closed down because of the lack of water pressure, leaving the slide dry. Children were injured as they attempted to slide but were left hurt, as staff failed to tell customers that it was unsafe to ride on.
However witnesses said that the whole event was a disaster with the "lack of shade and customers had to walk one kilometre to the gate where the queue wasn't even moving. The incline wasn't high enough for the slide so people had to push their children down the slide, making it dangerous for them and there was no accountability on site so there was nobody to complain to. Because the slide was also on a hill, the water was flooding at the bottom of the slide causing a huge puddle."
Dozens demanded information and refunds and were told to apply for refunds online where it would take three to five days to get their money back. Tickets, costing Dhs170, were sold for a two-hour slide sessions and people were still arriving throughout the day for their slot, not knowing the event was cancelled.
Organisers of the attraction commented, saying “We are heartbroken to tell you that we have to stop the event due to problems with the water supply, we are not able to let you slide properly.”
