News just in: from April 18 onwards, Dubai International Airport (DXB) will close its southern runway due to major renovation taking place.

This means for at least the next month, some flights will be rerouted to Dubai World Central (DWC) airport or others.

Lorne Riley, Director of Communications, told Gulf News this is happening because the month of May is a quiet period in terms of air traffic. With the Holy month of Ramadan coming up, it’s the best time to get the work done.

Airlines moving to DWC are: FlyDubai, Wizz Air, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Nepal Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, SpiceJet, Indigo, Aeroflot and flynas. While Indian carriers like Air India and Air India Express said they would operate from Sharjah International Airports.
