Qatar Charity and Doha Marriott come together to support flood victims in Balkans - here's how you can help

Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia have recently been hit by the worst floods in Balkans area in the last 120 years.

Catastrophic flooding and landslides have destroyed homes and displaced populations throughout the Balkans after more than two weeks of continuous rains. Dozens of people have been killed, tens of thousands displaced, thousands left homeless, crops washed away and infrastructure such as roads and bridges destroyed.

On this occasion Doha Marriott have partnered with Qatar Charity to distribute the donations collected from associates to help the people so devastatingly affected by the floods in the Balkan region. During this project Doha Marriott made a great connections with Qatar Charity, who stepped in immediately and sent all the collected items over to help those in need.

Qatar Charity have also provided food parcels (which included flour, sugar, oil, pasta, rice, water and milk) in addition to hygiene kits, clothing, blankets and cleaning materials to 2,500 people throughout the municipal areas of Doboj, Maglaj, Olovo and Šamac.

So far, locally based staff and volunteers from Qatar Charity led the response efforts while follow-up recovery activities will have the additional support from the disaster preparedness and response department in Doha.

Qatar Charity has been working in Bosnia and Herzegovina for more than twenty years having formally established its presence there in 1994.

Doha Marriott and its associates give great importance to serving the surrounding community. Investing in the public and where they do business is at the core of Marriott’s spirit to serve social responsibility and community engagement strategy, whether it is in Qatar or somewhere around the world.
