Do you dare to take on the highest zip line in the UAE?
Calling all adrenaline junkies!
So you've dived with sharks, completed a half-marathon and even trekked up Jebel Jais - but have you ever thought about zip-lining off it? Well now you can, thanks to Ras Al Khaimah's newest flagship venture. A new extension from Via Ferrata - a popular protected climbing route found everywhere from the Alps to the Dolomites - the team have now set up a course in Dubai's neighbouring emirate RAK, set against the backdrop of Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest mountain peak.
So what exactly does it entail, we hear you ask? At 470m long, the 'iron path' comprises three different courses along the rocky facadwes of the mountain, and Team Ahlan! headed down last weekend to try out the easiest of the bunch, the Ledge Walk. Now when we say easy, this is no walk in the park - you'll trek up to 70m high and complete three zip-lines, the shortest being 50m and the longest a whopping 300m ride. The two other paths offer more direct routes to the long zip-line, with the most extreme - the Julphar Scare - taking around 1.5 hours with a 120m ascent using laders through five different vertical sections. Adventurers are accompanied at all times by highly-skilled experts, so there's really nothing to worry about.
“All visitors will need to prove themselves on the standard course before being allowed on one of the more technical routes,” explained Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA)
“It’s a unique opportunity to experience the dramatic Jebel Jais scenery at just under 400 feet – that’s the height of a 30-storey building.”
As one of the newest and unique adventures in the region, it was the most exhilarating experience we've had all year. Think you've got what it takes? Go on, we dare you...
