Despite having lived in the UAE for years, we have to admit that we haven’t tried as much Emirati cuisine as we would have liked. We are well-versed when it comes to a Lebanese menu, but less so when it comes to the local classics. So, we were delighted to head down to Siraj, an Emirati-Levantine restaurant situated next to The Dubai Mall at Souk Al Bahar. Fine-dining Arabic cuisine with an iconic Burj Khalifa view – this has to be one of the best places in the city to try Emirati food.
We arrive hungry! And when given the option to sit inside or out, we go al fresco. It’s cooling down out there, and we aren’t about to pass up an evening admiring the mesmerising Burj Khalifa over dinner.
We are welcomed with a refreshing pomegranate, pineapple and orange fizz. And it’s not long before starters of hummus and fattoush arrive at our table. We then tuck in to delicious, creamy cheese rolls with golden-brown diced potatoes on the side. Aware that we are filling up fast, we take a foodie interlude and watch the enchanting Dubai Fountain.
Our feast promptly resumes, with a portion of biryani. The must-try take on the classic rice dish arrives at our table served inside a pillowy-soft saj. As we cut into the warm bread, we are greeted by the fragrant biryani spices – a treat for all the senses! We enjoy ours with a grilled whole baby chicken, cooked to perfection with sumac and onion.
To top off the evening, we leave our sweet to chance, with a Dessert Box Surprise. And it certainly pays off, because the chocolate balls are to die for. We’ll be back with guests in tow next time we have visitors in town.
