Dinner Review: Burger & Lobster, DIFC
While the actual restaurant might be slightly hidden in the Burj Daman Building in DIFC, the popularity of Burger & Lobster is no secret. Truth be told, Team Ahlan! hadn’t visited before, so when we got invited to sample the menu, we simply had to see what the fuss is about. The first thing we notice is that the menu is rather small – only one page in fact. As the name suggests, it’s largely focused on burgers and lobsters.
For starters, we were immediately intrigued by the spicy panko popcorn, which is deep fried, panko-breaded lemon pepper lobster bites, served alongside a sweet chili and coriander dip. While it may be deep fried, it still retains both the taste and the texture of the lobster meat, which pairs perfectly with the sauces. Needless to say, it’s gone in seconds.
For mains, we decide to share dishes. First up, we try the beast beef burger, which is topped with lobster and Chinese cabbage, brie cheese and truffle mayo sauce. Hands down, this is one of the best burgers we’ve ever consumed in our entire existence. With sauce dripping down our hands, we savour every beautiful bite.
On the lobster side of the menu, we decide to go for the newly added lobster mac ‘n’ cheese. Served in a large red pot, the portion is once again enormous. Not that we’re complaining. The succulent pieces of lobster meat and pasta are cooked in a rich cheddar cheese sauce, topped with a parmesan crust, and is officially the highlight of our week. The bad news is that no other regular mac ‘n’ cheese will ever satisfy us again after this dish.
At this point, as you can imagine, our taste buds have gone into overdrive, and our stomachs have closed shop for the night. But if the mains are THIS impressive, surely we have to try the dessert, right? RIGHT?! So we share a cheesecake. The dulce de leche cheesecake, served with banana sorbet, is one of the biggest and most delicious slices of cake we’ve ever had the pleasure of having on our plate. As we work our way down the cake, we eventually know it’s time to stop and give up.
We immediately call our waiter over and demand he remove the plate from the table. “Is something wrong?” he asks. “No, it’s possibly the best cheesecake we’ve ever tasted, and while we can’t stomach more food, we also can’t leave it alone,” we respond. “Save us! Take it away!”
As we roll out of the restaurant and make our way home, we start thinking of the leftover cheesecake, and whatever happened to it. Then we start thinking of the lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, and wonder if they deliver (which we find out they do, on Deliveroo, FYI).
And just like that, we’re also hooked on Burger & Lobster. Turns out it really is worthy of all the fuss.
