Step into Moana at Sofitel on the Palm and be whisked away to a quiet seaside paradise where the pagoda-style restaurant seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor dining areas in relaxing turquoise hues.
The menu boasts French oysters, Canadian lobsters, Hokkaido scallops, Alaskan king crab legs, US prawns and Norwegian salmon, either on ice or freshly cooked. The menu extends to signature curries, divine soups and grilled specialties. The dessert selection features favourites from the Gulf region, East Asia and France. Children get their own menu featuring favourite seafood, pastas, sweets and beverages.
Portion sizes are perfect for one, or if you cannot decide, why not order a couple of dishes to share? The Moana special wakame salad is highly recommended – assorted slices of hamachi, yellowfin tuna, Norwegian salmon, edamame beans, avocado and cucumber absolutely burst with freshness. The pan-seared scallops melt in your mouth, complementing the subtle flavours of duck liver, creamed spinach, wild mushrooms, pumpkin purée and truffle jus.
Moana offers both surf and turf on the entrée menu, but truly, why wouldn’t you take advantage of the fish on offer in a seafood restaurant? The red snapper and pink sea bream are grilled exquisitely, allowing their natural, distinctive flavour to come through. You can choose your side and sauce and the mashed potato and lemon butter accompany the dishes perfectly.
The ambiance is relaxed, the music is at a soothing volume (please let this be a trend that is catching on!) and the service is excellent. The tables are nicely spaced to give the venue an intimate feel, but at no point did it feel crowded.
If a weekend gathering is more your vibe, seafood lovers will not want to miss the Ocean Brunch on Fridays or Sushilicious Brunch on Saturdays, both served with free-flow beverages.
