The Dubai International Film Festival certainly had its finger on the pulse last year when it screened some of the top contending movies in this year’s Oscars. Nine, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Il Divo and The Princess and the Frog all came up tops for nominations on the heels of their screening in Dubai.
The event which attracted just over 50,000 movie fans and screened 168 movies highlights the growing attention organizers are paying to developing the thematic scene in the UAE. Artistic Director, Masoud Amralla Al Ali explains the importance of showcasing movies regionally that are being viewed on a world platform.
“DIFF is committed to bringing the best of film experiences from around the world. The recognition gained by movies screened in Dubai at the world’s foremost award events highlight the quality of film selection. These films offer an insight into modern filmmaking for the audiences and serve to inspire regional filmmakers.”
Overall, the Oscar nominated movies screened at DIFF have clinched 30 nominations in all.
The seventh edition of DIFF is set to take place later this year.
