Having interviewed an endless list of celebrities, from Tom Cruise to George Clooney, while possessing flawlessly good looks, the notion that Diala Makki has ever been anything other than super-confident in her own skin is unfathomable, but that’s exactly how it was, according to the young star.
Born in Beirut, Diala’s humble beginnings in television originated in her native city, where she hosted a fashion programme for youths. She was then headhunted in 2004 to become a reporter for Dubai One, yet she was plagued by insecurities over her looks and daunted by having to compete for attention with other journalists on the red carpet. That’s until the day she scored an impromptu interview with Leonardo DiCaprio, after deciding to wear a knockout dress to get his attention. Since then, Diala has revelled in being herself, without trying too hard. “Someone once told me ‘If you see a successful person, don’t try to imitate them – try to be different’.”
Diala’s life in the fast lane continues to go from strength to strength. “This year was incredible for me. I covered every international fashion week and film festival. I met and interviewed some of the most inspiring people in the world, like Prince Harry, Karl Lagerfeld and Elie Saab, as well as hosting the IWC Love of Cinema event alongside Cate Blanchett. In a nutshell, this year was a dream
