Be careful where you light up your shisha! Authorities in Dubai are no longer just warning people enjoying shisha in public areas such as beaches and parks. A Dh500 fine is now in effect and being imposed by 23 inspectors who can fine public shisha smokers on the spot.

The fines are part of a recent push across the UAE to limit shisha smoking in public. Earlier in 2013, Abu Dhabi banned restaurants and cafes from serving shisha along its corniche area.

In Dubai, notice boards detailing the new rules have been installed throughout public areas.
