This high-profile therapist helps couples, families and children achieve mental health and well-being. In the past year you’ve probably heard her on many a radio show or read her pieces in the city’s leading publications.
Do you enjoy the spotlight?
I’m fairly private and introverted, so spotlights tend to feel a little unnerving. The benefit of added visibility is that it gives people knowledge into the work I do, which helps to dissipate any stigmas and misconceptions.
Are there particular issues here in the UAE you have to deal with?
Cultural differences and expectations can affect the dynamics of a family. Being conscious of these differences is critical for a healthy balance. Much of my work focuses on children’s mental health and wellbeing. One of the challenges I face here is the lack of community-focussed support, but this is changing.
Do you enjoy your job?
Absolutely. Not many of us are lucky enough to do what we love and make a career out of it. It’s also gratifying to be able to support my clients during their journey.
What’s the best advice you have ever given or been given?
Follow your heart. That’s a tried and tested one.
