David Bowie Dead at 69
David Bowie has passed away at the age of 69 following a secret battle with cancer.
The Heroes singer has, according to sources, lived with the disease for a number of years despite his team saying it was just 18 months, but kept the news secret from his fans.
A statement posted on the artist's official social media accounts reads: "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."
The cult singer crossed genres dabbling in glam rock, art rock, soul, hard rock, dance pop, punk and electronica. He has also been sampled by many modern artists including Puff Daddy, Chemical Brothers, Vanilla Ice, Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Tove Lo.
