David Beckham Gets Roasted by Barack Obama
Obama ever gets tired of being President of the United States, there's always a
career in comedy to consider. David Beckham felt the full funny force of the
Prez's jokes when he and his Los Angeles Galaxy teammates visited the White
House on 14 May.
The Brit soccer star and the team were being honoured for their Major League
Soccer Cup win. While David led LA Galaxy to victory over Houston Dynamo in
November 2011, he had to endure some ribbing at the press
conference with Obama.
took on the 37-year-old football ace's age first, quipping, "We have a young up and comer on the team, a guy
named David Beckham. I gave David a hard time;
I said that half his teammates could be his kids! We're getting old, David. In
fact, you're holding up better than me."
Beckham's hubby faced a hilarious comment about his advent in the world of
fashion. Obama added, "It's a rare man who can be that tough on the field
and also have his own line of underwear."
footballer took it all in good humour, and, of course, it wasn't all jokes as the President was generous with his
compliments too. He said, as he opened the ceremony, "I’m not going to
flatter myself by assuming these cameras are here for me" He also praised LA
Galaxy for "pulling off one of the toughest feats of team sports."
But then it was back to the comic chops. Talking about
his own Irish heritage, Obama said that LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane was "a
cousin of mine."

During the visit to the White House, the team presented the
President with his own Galaxy shirt and later joined First Lady Michelle Obama
at a soccer clinic with kids on the South Lawn.
