A busy restaurant filled with patrons is always a good sign and Damasca One is a popular eatery for locals and visitors alike in Doha. Amidst the bustling Souq Waqif, Damasca One offers hearty Syrian food with an extensive menu of over 150 items to choose from. The restaurant is split over two levels with a downstairs area for live music and a beautiful upstairs terrace for relaxing and shisha.
We visited during mid-week and the restaurant was nearly full to its 450 seat capacity! First from the menu we ordered a yummy artichoke and goat cheese labneh salad followed by a mixed Mezze platter. Served with soft and light home-made pita bread, the mezze plate featured a divine mix of tabbouleh, hummus, moutabbal, vine leaves and an addictive spicy red pepper and walnut muhammara that we couldn’t stop eating!
Up next were the main courses, starting with Kibbeh Labaneh – a light and creamy mix of cooked yoghurt with succulent, pink lamb chunks and small balls of tasty pistachio, onion and minced lamb. Accompanied by a huge portion of rich and mildly sweet burghal with tomato and beautifully tender and moist chicken sheesh taouk that was delicious.
Finally, we devoured two desserts - the luscious Um Ali – a heavenly concoction similar to a bread and butter pudding and made with pistachio, honey, bread and coconut. Our mahalabiya was a silky and aromatic custard made with milk, corn flour, honey, rosewater and topped with pistachios. A beautiful way to complete our meal!
Damasca One is a warm and inviting restaurant which perfectly showcases Syrian hospitality and food. Service was friendly and accommodating. With a great location and views over Souq Waqif, the menu features a vast range of food and drink including salads, cold appetizers, charcoal grills and shawarma. Shisha is also available in the upstairs terrace. A great night out in the heart of Doha! INFO: Damasca One, Souq Waqif, 4475 9908, www.damascarestaurant.com
