Feathers are set to fly over wildly hyped ballet movie Black Swan, with the shock revelation that the film’s costume designers, Rodarte will not receive any credit for their work on the dance flick – and miss out on scooping an award for all their hard work!
While the movie’s awesome ballet wardrobe has been tipped for Oscar success, and star Natalie Portman already the proud owner of a Golden Globe for her performance, Rodarte’s designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, will not be credited for the costumes they created for the Darren Aronofsky dance thriller, after failing to read the small print when they signed the necessary paperwork.
Insiders on the flick claim the fashion designing sisters didn’t negotiate credits in their initial contract and weren’t part of the Costume Designers Guild until very recently – which means they were not listed as the film’s official costumiers. And while studio bosses wanted to submit costume designer Amy Westcott (who is part of the CDG) and the Rodarte sisters for award consideration, the Guild rules state only the official registered designer Amy, is eligible.
“Kate and Laura are beyond furious” said a source close to the siblings. “They designed and created every single costume for the movie. As far as they are concerned, they have been robbed of the biggest moment of their fashion career.”
With the movie tipped to win big at the Oscars next month, and rumours of a red-carpet showdown between the snubbed Mulleavy sisters and offical costume designer, Amy Westcott on Academy Awards night, it looks like Black Swan is set for a particularly tragic fashion finale. Tu-tu much!
