It all started with a post on Facebook group Dubai Expat Community, encouraging residents to show up on balconies to support everyone affected and to give a round to applause to the heroes who have been fighting tirelessly to keep the UAE safe from COVID-19.
While many UAE residents practice social distancing by staying at home, the balconies of high-rises buildings became hot spots for people wanting to express their solidarity with each other. Some residents also waved to others on balconies, using their mobile phones as torches.
It all happened on Saturday night at 9pm as the sky flashed continuously, accompanied by heavy rain, thunder and, in some places even hail.
The cheering could be heard in many parts of Dubai, including Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Mankhool and more.
