Colin Firth, Cate Blanchett, Kristin Davis and Freida Pinto Rock Dubai at DIFF 2012
Our fave T’Towners have jetted back to Hollywood after a week of movie magic and A-list events at the Dubai International Film Festival 2012!
Cate Blanchett was first down Madinat Jumeirah’s red carpet on 9 December before jetting off to London for the premiere of The Hobbit while Kevin Spacey kept up the luvvie quota, but our fave DIFF guest by far was Life of Pi star and T’Town newbie Suraj Sharma. He was the most polite young man on the red carpet and only outdone by our fave ageing crooner Bryan Ferry who signed a copy of Ahlan! for us. He’s still got it! Call us, Bry.
But Bryan had some hot competition for Ahlan!’s affections. Colin Firth was our most sought-after star by far, and not just because he’s Mr Darcy! Caring Colin raised Dhs12,000 by selling the Paul Smith tux off his back at Oxfam’s One Night Changes Lives charity auction at the Armani Hotel on 14 December.
Colin even spilled, “If you bid high enough for my tux, I’ll take it off right now!” Sadly, we couldn’t raise the required funds. Meanwhile SATC's Kristin Davis was the nicest star of the night, which saw the UAE’s finest bidding for a date with Scar-Jo and a private yoga class with Alec Baldwin. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford any prizes ourselves, but the thought of Colin tuxless was good enough for us. Happy days.
DIFF Gifting Lounge
If you weren’t jel enough about the red carpet action, you should have seen the DIFF gifting lounge! Freida Pinto, Cate Blanchett and chums had access to treats including free holidays. Freida loved her Bastien Gonzalez manicure and pedicure so much that she visited the VIP Lounge again the following day for a relaxing foot massage. The Slumdog Millionaire star also picked up a fantastic trip to the Maldives, courtesy of Shangri-La Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives and was treated to a feast of the senses by FO’AH Fragrances, testing the wide range of essences before choosing her favorite, which was the men’s fragrance.
Freida also met with the inspirational duo behind The DIFF VIP Lounge’s CSR partner ethical muse, taking the time to chat with them about their ethical approach to business, before picking up a beach bag and iPad cover made of reusable plastic bags. She also enjoyed trying the soon-to-be launched OCÓO Beauty Drink (and took a week‘s supply with her), selected a beautifully designed pillow from thehipster.com and adored her bottle of Moet and Chandon, which was specially personalised with her name in Swarovski crystals.
Kristin Davis also stopped by the DIFF VIP Lounge before heading off to enjoy a desert safari, where she had time for a quick manicure courtesy of Bastien Gonzalez. In town as part of the Oxfam crew, Kristen was particularly impressed by the wide range of items on display from ethical muse, and picked up an ethically sourced scarf and beach bag. She absolutely loved her t-shirt from T-junction, which they had produced with her name in Arabic. She was also thrilled to see one of her favorite brands, Natura Bisse, in the VIP Lounge, confessing that she just loved the products.
As with all the VIP guests attending the VIP Lounge, Freida and Kristin left with their thehipster.com bag filled with products. We so need to be famous!
