1. Puppy Love
My 15-year-old cocker spaniel Timmy now lives in Texas with my brother-in-law. It got too hard for her to walk up the stairs to my fifth floor apartment, so we let her roam in the country. Well, not exactly, she lives at the W residences and is walked and adored by all the lovely staff. Now, I get updates called Tim mail.
2. Work of Heart
I’ve known my husband since early high school and recall being intrigued by him. We would pass each other in the hall as we were leaving art class and I remember his work. For Christmas last year, his mother had one of his high school projects framed for me. I want to find more so I can start a mini-collection!
3. No Place Like Om
I have sworn by Bikram Yoga for many years. I have an on-again, off-again relationship with it, but as of late, it’s on. It motivates and calms me, and while some people find the heat unbearable, it really helps me focus. I will take anyone who wants to go with me, as long as they agree to try it more than once – three times is preferred!
4. Closer Collector
Years ago, on a trip to Paris, I discovered French artist Dominique Dubien. On a recent trip, I stumbled upon his work yet again. We met and I commissioned two pieces for our apartment.
5. A Fine Vintage
This summer I had the privilege of traveling to Toronto, Canada, to vintage jewellery collector Carole Tanenbaum’s home. She basically lives in a giant jewellery box. It was a dream to sort through her treasures for specialty items to sell on Moda Operandi. My collection is small potatoes in comparison.
6. International Relations
I’ve travelled a lot this past year, but the best trip I took was a long overdue vacation with my husband to Southeast Asia. We went to China, Vietnam and Thailand. If I can find the time, I would like to take more trips like that one. Seeing the world is something I would love the opportunity to do.
7. Strike a Balenciaga
It’s no secret that Balenciaga is my fashion obsession, so when I heard that Ghesquiere’s S/S13 collection would be his last, I started a savings account. It might seem extreme, but I can’t risk not being able to buy up all of the archive pieces I can find. It’s become a mission!
8. Hidden Talents
One of the best parts of my job is the opportunity to meet new designers, as well as designers who have been around for years but have yet to be discovered and promoted. Fostering emerging talent is one of my passions and, through my travels, I have been able to meet some of the most exciting new fashion names out there. Ostwald Helgason, Patricia Viera and Josh Goot are all destined to be the ‘next big thing’ and I’m excited to be along for the ride
