Alexa Chung launches her debut collection
She’s been a style icon for more than a decade and has lent her name and credentials to countless respected brands, but Alexa Chung has finally bitten the proverbial bullet and designed her own collection. So. Exciting!
Alexa launched her first collection, Alexachung, last week. The response from the style world and her many fans has been incredibly positive. Critics approve!
The collection itself is packed with pieces directly inspired by Alexa’s style. Kooky sixties details like Peter Pan collars, vinyl minis and pinafores all feature heavily. The price points are affordable compared to many celebrity/designer ranges.
Chung debuted the collection last week in St John’s Wood, North London, in front of family, friends and select industry insiders. After the show, Alexa said: “The first season is about getting to know it. Although, having said that, there was a narrative about a posh west London girl corrupted by the music scene.”
When asked about why she decided to finally launch her own brand, Alexa said: “It’s been a long time gestating. I started doing this [designing] when I turned 30. Any time before then, I was either having too much fun or was too far away in New York or working too hard on everything else, doing five jobs simultaneously.”
She’s not wrong. As well as collaborating on two highly successful Marks & Spencer retrospective collections, Alexa has written a style tome and starred in countless campaigns for luxe designers like Chanel and Longchamp.
But grounded Alexa is keeping it real when it comes to her designs. “What I do want to make is lovely jumpers that will last you for a few years that you can wear and love, or jeans that will make your bottom look nice.”
Sounds pretty good to us. Here’s to looking like Chung!
