To UAE expats, the Grand Millennium Dubai may be best known for its bars – hello Belgian Beer Café – but we discovered there’s more to the hotel than brews and burgers. The Grand Millennium Dubai is a five-star hotel with all the amenities – three fantastic restaurants, great spa and leisure facilities, and huge suites – but without the often tiring cheesy tourist vibe. Sushi lovers will go gaga over Asian restaurant Toshi, hops fans will be spoilt for choice at the Belgian Beer Café, and if you’re more of a spa queen, how does an outdoor sea-view Jacuzzi sound? It’s perfect for a home-away-from-home trip or for Abu Dhabi residents stopping in Dubai for the weekend. Here’s the lowdown…

The Gym, Pools & Spa
As well as the nice-sized outdoor pool, a poolside bar serving smoothies, snacks and fresh fruit, and a huge state-of-the-art gym, the hotel has a fab outdoor Jacuzzi that’s a perfect sunset-viewing spot!
For some well-deserved pampering, head to the small but perfectly formed Jasmine Spa with its homely and relaxing vibe and a long list of treatments that use Maria Galland Paris products. We tried out the Holiday Escape Package, an über relaxing combo of an aromatherapy massage, full body salt scrub and a pureness facial – great for guys and girls alike!

The Bars & Restaurants
TOSHI
: This Asian restaurant wins, not only with its rotating menu, but with its modern décor and panoramic views. Every day has a different theme, including Teppanyaki and Tempura Night (Sunday), Asian BBQ (Monday), Sushi Night (Tuesday), Steam Pot Night (Wednesday), Thai Night (Thursday), Seafood Market Night (Friday) and Asian Brunch (Saturday). Toshi’s signature menu is on offer on Sushi Night, which is definitely worth a visit whether you’re a sushi buff or are looking for an introduction to the cuisine.

DANTE: Dante is a grand Italian restaurant that transports you into traditional Italy with its European furnishings, Michelangelo-style paintings of cherubs on the ceiling, outdoor patio garden and live entertainment. Specialities include stone-baked pizzas and organic cannelloni – there’s a whole menu of organic dishes, in fact!

BELGIAN BEER CAFÉ: This outlet is busy every night of the week, especially on the themed nights that include Cheese Night every Saturday, Mussels Night every Wednesday, Ladies’ Night on Monday and Friday Brunch serving traditional Belgian food and drinks. There’s also a fab happy hour deal where revellers get 30 per cent off drinks between 11.30am and 6pm every day!

THE ATRIUM: The impressive Atrium is the main breakfast destination and serves a large spread of international cuisine. The restaurant also hosts a Friday Brunch with a wide selection of live cooking stations serving everything from pizza to Arabic specialities to sushi. Don’t forget the desserts!

CRYSTAL BAR: If Belgian Beer Café’s too loud for you, head to Crystal Bar, a grand piano bar where you can sip on bubbly and indulge in foie gras while you listen to live jazz. Très posh!

The Rooms
Walking into one of the business suites was like entering a small apartment. Each room has a huge king-size bed, a generous lounge area, a walk-in wardrobe leading into a large bathroom with a rain shower as well as a bath, plus all your essential bath goodies. A nice touch was having a spread of nibbles laid out in the lounge area, including three types of juice, a large fruit bowl, cheese and salmon canapés plus chocolates. But forget square chocolates on your pillow – we were treated to chocolate covered strawberries decorated like a tuxedo-clad
